A pure nature experience at the Rostocker Heide

Few German cities have a city forest larger than Rostock’s. The Rostocker Heide, which stretches along the Baltic coast from Markgrafenheide to the Baltic seaside resort of Graal-Müritz, spans 6,000 hectares. Once a hunting district and timber store for the construction of houses and ships, the Rostocker Heide, with its distinctive, health-promoting climate, is today a unique recreation area for hiking, cycling and horse-riding – a varied landscape of beech and pine forests, wetlands and sea sand. 87 kilometres of biking and hiking trails and 60 kilometres of horse-riding tracks make it perfect for exploring on your own. Catch the occasional glimpse of the sea and beach, and admire centuries-old upright and wind-bent trees.
