Eva-Maria Kröger was born on June 16th, 1982. She grew up in Dierkow, where she attended a high school until 1999. In 2001, she graduated from the former “Goethe-Gymnasium”, which is now known as the “Innerstädtische Gymnasium”.
Already during the school time her daughter Luca Victoria was born. Luca Victoria is now a trained kindergarten teacher.
After graduating from high school, Eva-Maria Kröger started studying political science and public law at the University of Rostock. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Mrs. Kröger moved with her daughter in 2004 to Tübingen and continued her master’s degree.
Since the end of 2006, she lived and worked in Mannheim until she moved back to Rostock two years later. Back in Rostock, Mrs. Kröger began her political involvement in the“DIE LINKE” party.
In the spring of 2009, she was elected to Rostock City Council, where she was the chair of her council group for 13 years. Meanwhile, as a part of her voluntary commitment, Mrs. Kröger was for several years also the chairperson of the Volkstheater Rostock supervisory board.
In 2012, Mrs. Kröger married Kay Spieß, then state director of the “DIE LINKE” party in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 2018, her husband passed away after a long illness. Today, Mrs. Kröger lives in a partnership.
In 2016, Mrs. Kröger ran for the state parliament of Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania and was elected via the list of the “DIE LINKE” party. Until her election as mayor, she was there involved in the areas of housing, construction, digitalization, art, culture, petitions and funeral law.
Mrs. Kröger is currently still a cashier in the Christopher Street Day association in Rostock, a task she enjoyed very much and will soon hand over.
