The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen is also a federal state. Among the sights to see there is the beautiful City Hall, the seat of the President of the Senate and of the Mayor. It is one of the most important examples of brick gothic architecture in Europe. The bronze statue depicting the Bremen town musicians, a work of Gerhard Marcks erected in 1953 is famous, as touching the front hooves is said to make wishes come true. Harbor management, shipping and logistics form the core of the economy in the two-city state.
